Where Do Pests Usually Hide While Taking Up Residence in Your Home?

Pests are smart, so they tend to be tricky to handle. Catching pests can be difficult as they are small enough to slip through small openings. That is why a lot of people only watch pests scurrying around areas in their houses and struggle to capture them. Sadly, seeing even just one pest can mean a lot of them are just hiding nearby. However, you do not have to worry as Pointe Pest experts are available to help you. Being aware of the common hiding places for pests can help you locate and handle them. A lot of pests can use the following are their hiding spots:

Cabinetry

Cupboards and cabinets are perfect hiding spots for many pets as they are hidden and near food crumbs that pests can feast on. Also, these spots are close to the moisture that the kitchen provides. As you try to find pests that may be invading your home, inspect the cabinets, particularly along the back walls. To ensure pests won’t hide there, clean all messes such as stains and spilled drinks.

The Exterior of Your House

Overgrown shrubbery and trees that touch your home provide an appealing shelter for many pests. You must trim back plants, so insects like ants cannot use them to access your house. Look for big cracks, gaps, and other small openings in your home’s exterior to ensure pests won’t have entry points. A rodent can squeeze through a hole that is a quarter-inch wide.

Plumbing

You must check plumbing throughout your house, particularly in the bathroom and kitchen. This ensures there are no leaks. Also, remember to check the roof, ensuring the rooftop AC units do not have leaks or deliver too much condensation. Eliminating sources of moisture and standing water can help prevent a pest issue from happening.

Appliances

Pests can hide in kitchen appliances like dishwashers, microwave ovens, ovens, and refrigerators. In the coldest months of the year, bugs and rodents can flock to these appliances to find warmth and leftover food. Hire pest control services if you think pests have set up camp in your appliances.

Under Sinks

Pests like roaches are drawn to areas under your bathroom and kitchen sinks. Such areas offer these pests moisture and a dark spot to hide. Also, they can take advantage of the piping that runs from these sinks into walls for their activity and movement.

Pantries

Ants, roaches, and rodents hide in pantries due to the availability of food. Also, this provides them with access to nearby sources of water. To deter pests and prevent food contamination, put natural repellants in the kitchen. If there is a serious pest issue in your pantry, call a pest control team right away.

Mattresses

Pests such as bed bugs can hide in mattresses. If your bedroom is infested with these bugs, you could wake up feeling itchy. If this happens, check your mattress for any signs of bed bugs like reddish-brown stains. A pest control expert can help you handle a bed bug infestation effectively by addressing the underlying issue.
